Where To Eat in Taormina, Sicily
FRESH ORANGE Juice
Kick off the day with a freshly squeezed blood orange juice (sprumante) from a fabulous stall on via del Teatro Greco. The juice is incredible here as they are all grown locally.
GAMBERO ROSSO
We came back twice as we loved it so much, and ordered the same thing, the Linguine Gambero Rosso their house speciality. Delicious red prawns (gamberi rossil from the sea between Malta and Sicily; they were so deliciously sweet, cooked in fresh local tomatoes, dried oregano and a crumble of pistachios from Bronte with fresh handmade pasta in house. The restaurant is located off the busy and lively main street Corso Umberto, on the narrow steps as you walk down. The pasta dish was €22. Order a glass of white Etna wine (secco) to go with it!
VILLA ZUCCARA PIZZERIA
We managed to find the pizzeria most loved by locals! Villa Zuccara is a very simple restaurant, with a lovely big terrace. The wood fired pizza is absolutely delicious, perfect thin sourdough crusted, sweet tomato base and very good quality toppings. I had the Diavolo, which was fantastic.
Pizzas are priced €10-12
bam bar
For Granita! This bar is granita paradise! Tha’s all they serve, freshly whipped up granitas in every flavour imaginable. I went for the limone as it’s made with the fresh local lemons. A must visit, and it’s such a lovely courtyard spot off the busy corso.
Wunderbar
Wunderbar (not bra! ) in the main piazza IX Aprile. So lovely and old fashioned with linen tablecloths, delicious local Etna wines, coffee and pastries. Sat outside for the brilliant people watching... we went there most mornings for our coffee and brioche and for apertivos in the evening.
La Pignolata
For cannelloni! I had to visit the best cannoli bakery in the area run by Onofrio Miano whose father started it over 40 years ago. It was sensational... | had the sweet whipped ricotta cream with pistachio, the pistachios are grown locally in Bronte. This is without doubt the best I've ever eaten... you can eat it there or takeaway.
